General information

Autiblog The Magazine is a groundbreaking publication about autism from the perspective of autistic voices. By sharing our personal experiences and knowledge, this magazine aims to bridge the information gap within the autistic community and society at large, bringing forth a fresh perspective that resonates with readers.

Entirely made by autistic individuals (90 collaborators in total), each issue of this magazine focuses on a specific theme with approximately 60 pages. Within its vibrant pages, you will find a collection of articles, studies, reflections, vignettes, and even poetry that collectively encapsulate the autistic experience.

Since its inception in 2021, Autiblog has published five issues:

#1 Embracing LGTBIQA+ Identitiess
#2 Navigating (un)employment
#3 Mental Health
#4 Creating Inclusive Spaces and Housing
#5 Autistic Insights on Family Relationships and Parenting

Autiblog's Philosophical Approach

At Autiblog The Magazine, our mission is to dismantle stigmas and stereotypes surrounding autism, including the gender biases prevalent in diagnosis. To accomplish this, we strive to provide free content while simultaneously valuing and compensating our contributors. We acknowledge the inherent challenge of balancing these objectives, as sustaining such compensation necessitates a reliable income source. Therefore, we offer our digital version of the magazine for free, while also providing a print edition and welcoming donations from those who wish to support this essential project. By doing so, we can print a substantial number of magazines, reduce individual costs, increase profit margins, and ensure the continued viability of this project.

Main features and goals of the crowdfunding campaign

The featured issue, our fifth publication, delves into the intricate dynamics of family relationships and upbringing. Within its pages, you will encounter many reflections, ranging from symbolic and traumatic accounts to the profound sense of camaraderie that emerges among neurodivergent family members. Furthermore, a comprehensive study involving over a hundred autistic individuals explores their experiences within familial contexts.

Our primary objective is to shed light onto how our upbringings and the families we grow up with significantly influence our lives, presenting a range of familial paradigms. Most importantly, we aim to enhance family relationships and break intergenerational trauma cycles.

Autiblog The Magazine in Numbers

Issue 5 boasts 17,500 words artfully spread across 60 pages, complemented by vivid illustrations on 115-gram couché paper. 20 autistic authors and 8 illustrators have collaborated on this issue. This unique content is a testament to the quality and value of the testimonials it contains. Furthermore, no other publication offers such an extensive collection of firsthand information at such an affordable price.

Magazine's Goals

Autiblog The Magazine serves as an inclusive and intersectional platform, continuously seeking to amplify diverse voices with each issue. In the context of our fifth edition, which focuses on family, we provide space for an array of perspectives, contributing to a collective narrative that authentically portrays the autistic reality. Additionally, our ethical commitment ensures that each contributor receives proper compensation for their invaluable work.

Campaign Goals

This campaign aims to fund the production of our fifth issue. By printing a substantial number of magazines, we can minimize costs and offer competitively priced copies. However, this endeavor requires significant upfront investments to cover printing expenses, contributor remuneration, and postage costs. The more funds we raise, the better equipped we will be to engage in extensive promotional activities for this project. You will have 40 days to support us, with an all-or-nothing funding approach. If we do not surpass the minimum goal, your contributions will be returned. However, if we succeed, we will commence shipping before the campaign concludes.

Why this is important

The driving force behind this magazine is to ensure that society genuinely listens to autistic individuals when discussing about autism. At the moment, there exists a significant disparity between the real needs and experiences of autistic people and what professionals and institutions offer, not to mention the state of autism research. Additionally, the lack of representation of autistic adults in the discourse surrounding this condition perpetuates miths and stereotypes, which autistic individuals must daily navigate through. However, it's not our responsibility to self-advocate, creating a publication where our authentic realities are acknowledged could solve this. This particular issue about the family aims to serve as a manual, offering guidance on providing the most nurturing environment for neurodivergent individuals.

Team and experience

This marks our second Goteo campaign, following the successful crowdfunding initiative to publish the books of Alejandra Aceves, a Mexican autistic educator, between December 2022 and February this year. The campaign garnered a positive response, attracting over 100 backers. Thus, we possess the experience and capability to execute this second campaign effectively.

Moreover, Autiblog The Magazine has already established its presence with the publication of five issues, reaching approximately 3,000 readers. This autistic magazine is present in bookshops in Latin America, several autism associations in Spain, and has extended its reach to 13 countries. Although we may not be a large-scale publication, we maintain our independence through crowdfunding campaigns like this one.
