The objective of this project is the self-publishing of "Nihil", the first record of the jazz quintet led by Vigo-based saxophonist Diego Alonso, which will be released in digital format and vinyl LP.
The main axes of this project are, on one hand, the musical compositions of the band leader, and on the other hand, the development of illustrations that will accompany the album's release. Thus, the project presents an album with 6 original compositions accompanied by 6 illustrations by Pablo P. Moledo.
This album marks the first as leader of my own ensemble, after more than ten years as a sideman in various formations of different styles. It brings together compositions ranging from 2014 to 2021 and represents some of my musical concerns where the Jacques Monod's concepts of chance and necessity in biological evolution, Sartre's existentialism, Nietzsche's philosophy, and the idea of liquid modernity by Baumann, as well as the influences of musicians like Joe Lovano, Chris Cheek, Seamus Blake, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Guillermo Klein, or Chassol, shape the aesthetic background of a personal and intimate musical work in which interaction among band members and improvisation shape the compositions in a context of contemporary jazz transiting between the emotions of anxiety, joy, struggle, and redemption..
This is an album recorded live over two days at CARA-OJM studios in Matosinhos, in an old-school manner, providing a good representation of how the band sounds in their live performances.
Main features and goals of the crowdfunding campaign
The donations received will help cover the following production and editing expenses in two stages:
-
Recording, mixing, and mastering of the album.
This stage will cover the production costs of the recording.
-
Creation of rewards.
This stage will cover the expenses of editing, distributing, and sending the digital download, vinyl, and prints that will be part of the rewards, as well as the shipping costs of the rewards and the commissions associated with the campaign itself.
Why this is important
In 2021, the opportunity arose to start my own project with musicians from my surroundings with whom I have a strong connection both musically and personally. Under the auspices of the Jazz na Caixa cycle promoted by the association O Eixo do Jazz, the quintet will give its first concert at Casa das Artes de Famalicão, followed by performances at Sinattra and A Casa de Arriba in Vigo, Jazz Filloa in A Coruña, Clavicémbalo in Lugo, the Ames Jazz festival, and the international fair MUMI.
This is a project that is completely self-managed, focused on musical creation in an alternative field to the usual commercial circuits. This means that as musicians, we are economically limited when it comes to managing the various production costs associated with recording an album. That's why the support of the public and music enthusiasts at concerts and in album editions like this one is crucial.
If you want to support the creation of alternative music made in Galicia and help musicians continue to work in a dignified manner, this could be a good time. Remember that with Goteo, your donation is tax-deductible, so your contribution will benefit from a discount, you will receive the corresponding reward, and you will greatly assist the project while also contributing to the development of culture in society.
