Main features and goals of the crowdfunding campaign
A story born of real testimonies that speaks about a collective that we usually forget when we enter the world of sex-affective relationships. A stark reality that makes the characters embark on a journey of discovery of their identity, self-knowledge and intimacy.
This short film is born from the need to know a collective that we did not know, besides giving voice to these forgotten realities of our society. If it is already difficult to find a partner in today’s society without any social taboo, how can this journey be when you have been diagnosed with a developmental disorder?
CHARACTERS
JOANA
Joana is a 27-year-old bisexual girl diagnosed with fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS). She likes to browse dating apps to try to find people with whom to maintain a sex-affective relationship, but there is always something that spoils everything. She lives in a flat with Adrià. Although, in the eyes of others, she has a very active sex life, her reality is very different.
ADRIÀ
Adrià is a 24-year-old gay boy who works in the editing department of a current affairs magazine in Barcelona. He’s a confident kid, except in the realm of intimacy. When he was a kid, he was diagnosed with Tourette syndrome. Because of tics he has had bad experiences in the romantic world and because of a bad experience with a childhood friend, he has not been alone again in intimacy with another person.
Why this is important
We were motivated to make this project come true after a conversation in the summer of 2022. In which we commented that in our current society, the sex and sexuality of individuals is often conceived as an essential part of everyone’s private life. At the same time, gender identity, sexuality and the LGTBIQ+ community are increasingly having a voice and visibility in the audiovisual world. In addition, we come to the fact that when we think about this topic, in most cases sex is based on a physical question.
The need to carry out this project is given as a response to the end of our degree (for the thesis), but also as a curiosity to represent on screens people diagnosed with some diversity. Our curiosity and desire to learn has led us to enter a journey where relationships can be conceived in other ways.
Since not everyone has the same relationship with sex, we also realized that people around us with some diversity did not have the same opportunities as a non-diverse person. As a result, we thought that mind and personality were one of the other factors involved in sexual and sex-affective relationships. For this reason, we also thought it would be interesting to know the point of view of people with some diagnosis regarding this.
Divers@ it is a short film aimed at an audience eager to learn and reflect not only on sex and romantic relationships, but the proper conception of people with some diversity. People who are willing to put themselves in Joana’s shoes, explore her limits and put their feelings in a position of vulnerability.
