General information

Are you a teacher looking for free, high-quality interactive maths activities?

Are you tired of paying licence fees, subscriptions, or hidden costs? Frustrated by slow, complicated, or restrictive applications? Imagine a web platform with hundreds of small, super-fast-loading mathematics activities, with no ads, no subscription fees, and no hidden costs.

What is Apoplous?

Apoplous is an open educational initiative created by a team of teachers in Cyprus. We are building a bilingual primary mathematics library through small HTML5 learning units that are practical, clear, and ready to use in classrooms, support teaching, revision, and home learning.

Why support is needed now

Apoplous has already begun with sample Grade 4 content. The pilot shows the value of the idea. We now need support to turn this first step into a stronger, richer, and more structured open educational resource.

What this campaign will fund

This campaign will help us:

  • improve the existing Grade 4 pilot
  • create and refine at least 30 new or improved activities
  • strengthen the English and Greek versions of the platform
  • test the materials in real educational conditions
  • prepare the project for future expansion into more grades and more languages

Why this matters

This project matters because:

  • teachers need resources they can actually use
  • students need focused and engaging activities
  • families need free access to quality learning materials without commercial barriers

What makes Apoplous special

Apoplous is not being built as a closed commercial product. It is being built as a shared educational good that will remain:

  • open to everyone
  • open to translation into any language
  • open source where possible
  • free from advertising

Our vision

With support now, Apoplous can grow into a meaningful open mathematics library for primary education, with lasting value for schools, learners, teachers, and families.

Main features and goals of the crowdfunding campaign

Apoplous is a bilingual educational initiative created by a team of teachers in Cyprus. It aims to build an open, ad-free mathematics library for primary education, based on small HTML5 learning units that make mathematics easier to teach, easier to learn, and easier to share.

What makes Apoplous different

  • To create practical, fast-loading mathematics activities for real classroom use
  • To offer content in English and Greek, with future translation into more languages
  • To develop the platform as an open educational resource, not a commercial product
  • To keep the project accessible, reusable, translation-friendly, and free from advertising
  • To build the content by teachers, based on real educational needs

Main goals of the campaign

  • To strengthen the current Grade 4 pilot
  • To create and refine at least 30 new or improved activities
  • To improve the quality and usability of the existing resources
  • To strengthen the English and Greek versions of the platform
  • To test the materials in real educational conditions
  • To prepare the project for wider reuse, translation, and future growth

Why this campaign matters

This campaign will help Apoplous grow from an initial pilot into a stronger open mathematics library for primary education, created by teachers for children, teachers, families, and schools.

Why this is important

Why this is important

Access to good educational material should not depend on cost, language, or commercial platforms. Teachers and families need mathematics resources that are:

  • simple
  • effective
  • easy to access
  • ready to use in real learning situations

This need is what led us to create Apoplous.

Apoplous is an open bilingual mathematics library based on small HTML5 learning units that can be used:

  • in class
  • at home
  • for support teaching
  • for revision and practice

The project is aimed mainly at:

  • primary school teachers
  • children in primary education
  • families
  • support educators
  • schools and educational communities

Its importance also comes from the fact that it is a teacher-led initiative with a strong public purpose: to make mathematics more approachable, more reusable, and more widely accessible. By remaining open, translation-friendly, and free from advertising, Apoplous aims to create lasting educational value for a wide community.

Why it can grow beyond its immediate audience

Apoplous is also important because it already connects naturally with existing educational networks and communities that can become early supporters, users, and multipliers of the project.

  • As an EU CodeWeek Ambassador, Dr Alexandros Kofteros is already connected with teachers across Europe who are interested in STEM, coding, and creative digital projects. This means the platform can be useful not only as mathematics material, but also as inspiration for project-based learning and as an example of how educational ideas can be developed through vibe coding and lightweight digital creation.
  • As co-founder of the Cyprus Computer Museum, he can also support the use of selected Apoplous activities on computers and tablets at the museum premises, where they can function as educational entertainment games for visitors and school groups.
  • As administrator of a Facebook community on educational content with more than 17,000 members, he can also help disseminate, promote, and test the activities through an already active network of educators.

Because of these links, Apoplous is not starting in isolation. It is being developed within a wider ecosystem of teachers, educational communities, STEM networks, and public-facing learning spaces. This gives the project a stronger chance to create real impact, reach early users quickly, and grow into a meaningful open educational resource with value both in Cyprus and beyond.

Team and experience

Previous Experience & Collaborations

Apoplous is also important because it does not begin in isolation. It grows out of existing educational outreach, collaborations, and recognised networks that can help the project reach users quickly and create impact from an early stage.

  • Through the co-founding of the Cyprus Computer Museum and its educational workshops, we already have extensive outreach to almost all public and private schools in Cyprus
  • As EU CodeWeek Ambassador for Cyprus, Dr Alexandros Kofteros has access to a wide network of educators across Europe, especially those interested in STEM, coding events, and innovative digital learning
  • This means that Apoplous can be relevant not only as mathematics material, but also as a useful resource for STEM projects, for coding-related educational events, and even as an example of vibe coding in education
  • The Cyprus Computer Museum is also a recognised training organisation in both Cyprus and Greece, which strengthens the project’s educational credibility and dissemination potential
  • As co-founder of the Cyprus Computer Museum, Dr Kofteros can also support the use of project activities on computers and tablets at the museum premises, where they can function as edutainment activities for visitors and school groups
  • As administrator of a Facebook group on educational content with more than 17,000 members, he can also help promote, disseminate, and gather feedback on the activities through an already active community of educators

Because of these links, Apoplous has the potential to benefit not only teachers, students, and families, but also a wider circle of:

  • European educator networks
  • training organisations
  • schools in Cyprus and Greece
  • STEM and coding communities
  • informal learning spaces such as museums
  • online teacher communities

This gives the project a stronger foundation for early adoption, wider dissemination, and meaningful long-term educational value.

Social commitment

Sustainable Development Goals

  • Quality Education

Obtaining a quality education is the foundation to improving people’s lives and sustainable development.

  • Reduced Inequalities

To reduce inequalities, policies should be universal in principle, paying attention to the needs of disadvantaged and marginalized populations.
