General information

Objectiu Venus is a project of community agitation that was born from the foundations of the Venus building, located in the neighborhood of La Mina (Sant Adria del Besós) and that seeks political and media shock. This building is an official protection building of a special regime; the Integral Transformation Plan of the territory dictated its demolition and the rehousing of its inhabitants almost 20 years ago. A building that is still standing, degrading its foundations and the dignity of the people who live in it, and sheltering all the social conflicts that are concentrated in the neighborhood of La Mina.

After nearly two decades of fighting the administration, the affected people of the building find themselves halfway to freedom. With hardly any resources and a great need to combine efforts, they launch this comprehensive crowdfunding campaign with a clear objective: to raise 10,000 euros to allow them to continue the court process in order to end their special condemnation.

The Venus building community is captive in a black **hole. The process of knocking down the block is frozen, blocked, silenced by an administration that undermines its inactivity in the lack of economic resources and perpetuates social damage. **

Drug dealing and drug use, unhealthiness, occupations, antisocial behaviour, poor neighborhood coexistence, lack of responsibility for the common space, a slight feeling of belonging. In the Venus building, the social pact and commitment to community life have been expropriated.

Over these 20 years of paralysis, only about 50 families have managed to rehouse. The remaining 190 continue to be raged in the Venus building and the administration has not yet processed the case to the Jury of Expropriation of Catalonia. They, owners of their homes, are asked to move to other properties in exchange for paying 34,000 euros and with private lending conditions. An unfair claim that transfers political responsibility to those affected and does not solve the conflict.

Demolish Venus building and rehouse its inhabitants with public and dignifying guarantees is to change the historical configuration of La Mina neighborhood. It involves retrieving the common value, returning political responsibility to the administration, reversing the results of the Transformation Plan. Close the spiral, open the labyrinth, unbare the web, remove the rotten waters. Release a community that suffers from the symptoms of a very convalescent policy.

Main features and goals of the crowdfunding campaign

This collective financing campaign is designed to cover the economic costs of the judicial process in which the neighbors of the Venus block are immersed. On its continuity will depend the outcome of a conflict that drags almost 20 years of history condemnation. Achieving the objective is to be closer to the demolition of the building and the fair, dignified and collective relocation and with public guarantees of the people who inhabit it.

Collaborating with Objective Venus is adding energy in the neighborhood fight against the administration. It is part of a process of reconstruction of dignity, recovery of collective value and social pact. It means having the possibility to complete the Transformation Plan and begin to assess its success. It is to return the political responsibility to the administration and change the future of the neighborhood of La Mina.

To be part of this project is also to give voice to a silenced reality. The political shock will be possible through the media shock. Visibilizing the degradation of life on Venus is the first step towards transformation. It is to heal the patrimonial and social damage of a community that suffers the violence of institutional abandonment.

Why this is important

The Venus building is the reflection of a poor administrative practice. And the affected people have traveled a fighting path alone. Now is the time to generate connections and synergies sensitive to their reality, to establish bonds of mutual support and to unify efforts.

Objetivo Venus welcomes all people who feel close to their injustice. It calls on the community to seek collaborations in all possible areas. Every social media post, every shared link and any economic input will be light poured over this black hole. La Mina neighborhood, with its complexes and stigmas, opens up to change and participation.

Team and experience

Objetivo Venus is born from collective need. It is a proposal promoted by a community, that of the neighborhood of La Mina, which struggles to make itself heard in a social reality where citizen participation is a scarce common good and where administrative care is so prudent that it goes unnoticed.

All the people who are part of this project are or have been affected at some point by the problems that arise from the Venus building. Neighbors, entities and territorial and external collaborators have joined efforts to mobilize and transform the reality.
