At CineCiutat we are always with the word "innovation" in our mouths, looking for the place of community cultural spaces in the societies of the future. However, something that perhaps attracts less spotlight, but which we equally defend, is the value of popular knowledge and tradition. Inspired by this we undertake this new stage and thus a process of deconstruction and emptying has begun, giving way to the CineCiutat that is to come.

We have been doing numbers for days, evaluating options, seeing limitations and possibilities, but the path is increasingly clear.

The main thing is to tackle those reforms linked to security and the renovation of electrical installations that motivated the launch of the campaign and that will allow us to reopen CineCiutat.

In addition, the current situation marked by the COVID-19 crisis and the gradual process of companies leaving their respective furloughs is making the availability of suppliers more limited and slower than we would like. Furthermore, although there are faster options, as part of our commitment to the islands and as a sign of support to local businesses, we are trying to work with the largest number of Balearic suppliers.

For all these reasons, we have decided to divide the renovations into two stages:

  1. The first one is looking at our long-awaited Atlàntida Film Fest. For its tenth anniversary we want to arrive with the sound ready and with the first touches of what will be the experience of visiting this new CineCiutat.

  2. Use this part of the summer to finish evaluating and contrasting the possibilities of what will benefit the project the most in the medium and long term and have it ready for when autumn arrives. Despite the budgetary limitations, we do not rule out anything, from projection improvements to improving the multi-disciplinary nature of the screening rooms.

Finally, you always give us something to be grateful for and we do it with all the pleasure in the world: a week ago we told you that we were going to undertake this process and many of you have written to us wanting to put on your mask and lend a hand.
