Therapeutic support for the accused midwife
A criminal trial entails a very high physical, mental, and emotional cost. We believe that self-care and professional support during this difficult process are also a right.

General information
A woman, a traditional midwife in Spain, has been reported for intrusion by the College of Nurses for accompanying families who have chosen to do be with her, without being a registered healthcare professional.
Precisely, women and their families who choose this option, do so because it is THEIR WISH to give birth outside the medical system and its protocols.
We do NOT believe that the women decisions that want to experience their reproductive processes outside the healthcare system should be judged.
We know well that this is not an option for everyone and it doesn't have to be yours, but it is a legal option in Spain, and therefore those who choose it cannot be criminalized, nor can those who, without being registered healthcare professionals, agree to be present during these processes and provide support with other resources outside of medical parameters.
It is part of our fundamental human rights to make free and unconditional decisions about your own maternity care.
We believe that the profession of midwifery is an ancient profession, that it existed long before the professionalization of midwifery, and obstetrics, and that, in any case, it was the institution of medicine that infringed upon midwives.
We also believe that each one, registered midwifes and traditional midwifes, has their own place and, although distinct, both are equally valid and therefore should never be at odds, but rather respect each other and collaborate in a balanced way. It is the woman or person with the capacity to bear a child who has the right to choose what best suits her needs and her own belief system.
**No one should be criminalized for accompanying a woman and her family during childbirth, as this limits women's freedom of choice and infantilizes them, believing that they are not capable of deciding the best option for their own sexual and reproductive processes.
Main features and goals of the crowdfunding campaign
When we talk about freedom of choice regarding our births, we commonly mention hospital birth and home birth with registered midwives (here in Spain Nurses who has aftterwards specialized in midwifery).
These are just two options (with countless unique features within each of them) of the many that can exist within an umbrella of legality: self-managed birth, birth with a traditional midwife, birth outdoors, birth in a birth center, birth with friends, neighbors, relatives, etc.
In this case, we are talking about the choice to give birth with a non-medical person, the traditional midwife, since there are women and people with childbearing potential who do not experience their reproductive processes as a dangerous or illness-ridden event and prefer to be supported and accompanied by others who do not have a medical perspective.
We want to show our support for a traditional midwife reported for intrusion by the College of Nurses in Spain.
We want to fund the costs of her defense, as we firmly believe that her accompaniment does not constitute a crime.
We know that there are currently two more midwives who have been reported by the same association, and that this is not an individual case, but rather a collective persecution.
We want to be financially prepared to support them and show them that they are not alone.
We know that there are many people who believe in the freedom to decide about our bodies and that OUR RIGHTS ARE NOT VIOLATED.

Why this is important
This campaign is not intended to address only those who have chosen or would choose to give birth with a traditional midwife, nor do we want you to agree with those who choose to do so. It is simply about supporting freedom of choice and respecting those who choose to take different paths than those predetermined.
This campaign is aimed at all those who firmly believe that women are not reproductive machines, that we are fully-fledged individuals, and that the decisions we make regarding our reproductive processes ONLY concern ourselves.
WE DON'T NEED TO BE SAVED.

Team and experience
We are a diverse group of people from different parts of the world and with different professions, hobbies, and dedications. We are mothers, fathers, midwives, lawyers, journalists, anthropologists, designers, artists... And although many of us don't know each other personally, we have a common goal.
After the Oviedo case, where a woman was forced, by court order, to give birth in a hospital, we said ENOUGH and decided to organize ourselves.
We differentiate ourselves from other platforms advocating for women's reproductive rights by DEFENDING ALL OPTIONS, not just those supported by scientific evidence.
We understand that every woman is free to choose what is best for her process and should never be forced to do anything with her body to which she does not consent.
Social commitment

Solidary
We want that the women and people with childbearing potential right to decide about where, how, and with whom to give birth, to be guaranteed.
